Custom organic canvas bag OEM orders at Oasis Canvas start at 500 pieces. Most brands come to us with the same three questions: What's the minimum order? How long does it take? And what do I actually need to provide to get started? This guide answers all three, and a few things most suppliers won't tell you upfront.
OEM vs ODM: Which One Do You Actually Need?
Before talking about MOQ or timelines, it's worth clarifying the difference, because confusing the two costs buyers time and money.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) means you provide your own design, specifications, and branding. The factory manufactures to your exact brief. You own the design. This is the right path if you have a defined product concept, artwork files, and know what you want the bag to look like.
ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) means you select from the factory's existing designs and customize within those parameters, adding your logo, changing a color, adjusting a strap length. Lower development cost, faster to market, but you're working within the factory's design constraints.
For most B2B buyers sourcing GOTS organic canvas bags, ODM is the practical starting point. You're not inventing a new bag category, you're sourcing a proven product with your branding on it. OEM makes sense when you have a specific structural requirement (a unique pocket layout, a proprietary closure, a custom lining specification) that doesn't exist in a factory's standard range.
At Oasis Canvas, we support both. The process below applies to both routes, with the key difference being the design input stage.
At Oasis Canvas, custom organic canvas bag OEM orders follow the same 5-step process regardless of which route you choose.
MOQ: What the Number Actually Means
Our MOQ is 500 pieces per style.
That number applies per SKU, meaning per style, per color, per size combination. If you want a tote bag in natural ecru and black, that's two SKUs, each requiring 500 pieces minimum.
Here's what affects whether 500 MOQ works for your order:
Single-style orders, 500 pcs of one tote bag in one color is the cleanest scenario. Straightforward to manufacture, easiest to certify, fastest to produce.
Multi-style orders, If you want totes, drawstring bags, and pouches in the same order, each style needs to meet MOQ independently. A combined order of 1,500 pieces across three styles (500 each) is fine. 1,500 pieces split across six styles at 250 each is not.
Color variations, A color change requires a separate dye lot, which has its own minimum. Natural (undyed) organic canvas has the widest availability and the fastest lead time. Custom colors add 5–7 days and may carry a small setup fee.
Fabric weight variations, 12oz, 14oz, and 16oz GOTS organic canvas are all available, but each weight is a separate fabric specification. Mixed-weight orders are possible but must be planned at the quote stage.
One thing worth flagging: some suppliers quote a low MOQ (100–200 pieces) but bury the real constraints in production minimums for printing, dyeing, or hardware. At 100 pieces, you may get the bag, but not the custom color, not the woven label, and not the GOTS Transaction Certificate per order. Ask what's included at the quoted MOQ, not just what the MOQ is.
The OEM Process: Step by Step
Step 1: Brief and Quotation (Days 1–2)
Send us your requirements:
You don't need to have every detail locked. Tell us what you know, flag what you're unsure about, and we'll advise on the gaps. We send a DDP quote within 12 hours.
Step 2: Sample Development (Days 3–18)
Once you confirm the quote and pay the sample fee, we produce a physical pre-production sample.
What the sample includes:
Sample timeline: 10–15 working days for a full OEM sample. ODM samples (from our existing range with logo application) typically take 5–7 working days.
Sample fee: Charged upfront, deducted from your bulk order invoice on confirmation. If you don't proceed with the order, the sample fee is not refunded, this filters out non-serious inquiries and means our production team focuses on real projects.
After receiving the sample, you have two options:
The most common revision requests are handle length, strap attachment point, and print color accuracy. Budget one revision round into your timeline to be safe.
Step 3: Order Confirmation and Production (Days 19–45)
Once you approve the sample, you confirm the bulk order and pay a deposit (typically 30%). Production begins immediately.
Production timeline:
During production, we conduct in-line quality checks at fabric cutting, sewing, and finishing stages. We'll send you production photos at the halfway point.
Step 4: Quality Control and GOTS Documentation (Days 40–48)
Before shipment, every order goes through a final QC inspection:
For GOTS orders, we prepare the Transaction Certificate at this stage. The TC covers your specific order, fabric weight, quantity, and destination, and is issued per order, not per year. You'll receive the TC documentation before shipment.
Step 5: DDP Shipment (Days 45–60 from order confirmation)
We ship DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to your specified address in the EU or US. DDP means:
Your DDP quote includes all of this. The number we quote is the number you pay.

A Note on GOTS at OEM Scale
One question we get regularly: "If I'm doing OEM with my own design, can I still get GOTS certification?"
Yes, but the certification comes from us, not from your design. GOTS certification covers the supply chain, not the product design. Because we're GOTS-certified from our Shanxi weaving base through to our Yangzhou fulfillment hub, every bag we produce, regardless of whose design it is, can carry GOTS documentation.
What you receive is a Transaction Certificate in your name, covering your specific order. You can use this TC to substantiate organic claims on your product listing, retail packaging, or EU Green Claims documentation.
If your retailer or marketplace requires GOTS documentation before listing your product, the TC is what you need. We issue it per order, per shipment.
